In this high-energy performance, the unmistakable sound of the traditional Taiko drum, used in Shinto rituals, is challenged by Yamato as they use their entire bodies to produce their breathtaking beats. With drums that weigh up to half a tonne, the drummers’ remarkable physical strength and trademark infectious energy leaves you feeling totally exhilarated.

Rick Will has been an archeologist working in Maine for nearly 40 years. In that time, he has conducted research and environmental assessments of Native American pre-European contact sites from Kittery to Fort Kent. His areas of expertise are zooarcheology, technology and material culture studies, including stone tool manufacture, bone tools and analysis of food bone remains to understand subsistence practices, and pottery manufacture. He is an accomplished potter and flint knapper (maker of stone tools). Rick will discuss his perspective on what and how we learn about the past from archeology. . Currently, Rick is turning his attention to writing “paleo fiction,” having authored two books about archeology and archeologists. This program is free and open to the public. Bring your lunch and join us in Moore Auditorium on the Institute campus. In Winter Harbor.
