SKOWHEGAN, Maine (WABI) - A 27-year-old woman driving to the hospital to have a baby, was killed Monday morning after her SUV rolled over on Route 2 in Skowhegan.

Authorities say it happened around 7 a.m. when the vehicle hit black ice, causing the woman to lose control.

Her newborn is listed in critical condition, after doctors performed an emergency C-section.

A man and an 8-year-old child were also in the vehicle. They were taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

Skowhegan Police Chief, David Buckman said, "I don't believe speed was a major factor, but any time you have a vehicle sliding on the road, it's gonna be speed induced. You're traveling too fast for road conditions at that point."

Sadly that mother was just five miles away from the hospital where she was scheduled to be medically induced.

Police are notifying the families, before any names are released.
