Winslow Residents to Vote on Consolidation of Junior High School in November

WINSLOW, Maine. (WABI) Winslow residents will vote next month on whether to authorize $10.3 million in bonds to fund several school projects.

Question #1 asks for financing for the construction, renovation, and equipping of both the High School and Elementary School to accommodate the consolidation of the Junior High School.

Seventh and eighth graders would move to the High School. Sixth graders would move to the Elementary School.

If approved, the measure provides funding for more classrooms, an auxillary gym, and a performing arts center at the High School.

It also includes funding for the demolition of the Junior High School if needed.

A town committee is exploring options for redevelopment of the property.

"There is an informational meeting on the 30th at the High School on the bond issue," said Town Council Member Jerry Quirion.

That meeting is open to the public. If Question #1 is approved, the Junior High School would be closed by 2019.
