POLAND, Maine (WMTW) There was no school in RSU 16 on Wednesday due to vandalism to the district's buses.

The district posted on Facebook said someone slashed their tires.

All of the Poland buses and trucks were damaged, school officials said.

Damage is estimated at $12,000.

Officials said they hoped to have the vehicles ready for school Thursday.

They also said their security system may provide evidence leading to the culprit.

The school district posted on its Facebook page just before noon that mechanics were continuing to repair the buses.

Students will likely have to make up the lost day, but school officials said they would reach out to the state for a waiver.

RSU 16 serves Mechanic Falls, Minot and Poland.
