AUGUSTA, Maine (WABI) - A Waterville couple is facing charges of gross sexual assault of a child under the age of 12.

The details of the case remain impounded from the public.

35-year-old Jennifer Stevens was arrested Thursday and appeared before a judge Friday.

Her husband, 36-year-old Michael Stevens was arrested the same day and appeared in court via video from the Kennebec County Jail on Monday.

A court affidavit has not been made public.

The couple is accused of repeatedly engaging in sexual acts with a child between October of 2010 and October of 2014.

Due to the disturbing details in the case, the judge set bail at $250,000 each.

"There is a manipulation component to the alleged in the affidavit which gives the court concern from, not only a public safety viewpoint, but also from a victim viewpoint," said Hon. Paul Mathews, District Court Judge.

They're due back in court on April 5th.
