Volunteers at UMaine Give New Students a "Hearty Maine Hello"

ORONO, Maine (WABI) Another summer has passed for college students, some are off to college for the first time.

It's freshmen move in day at UMaine.

Hundreds of volunteers were on campus today to help new students move in and give them a "hearty Maine hello."

UMaine is expecting 2,500 new students on campus this semester.

"There's nobody that doesn't love this. Parents everywhere rave about it and the students rave. This is 700 people reaching out and saying, hey you belong here. We welcome you. Happy to have you and we'll move you in and nothing could be better than that."

Fun for the freshmen will continue this weekend with the Welcome Weekend Day of Service...where students can go to get to know one another while getting in some volunteer hours.
