Utility Workers Prepare for Snow Storm

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - With another snow storm likely close at hand, utility workers across the state are already hard at work.

Emera Maine's storm response team is keeping a close eye on the weather.

Preparations include evaluating staffing needs, both in the field and at call centers, fueling up trucks, and preparing storm kits.

Emera's Bob Potts says mixed precipitation along the coast and downeast could pose some problems for line workers.

"We have the option to bring in some external crews if needed. At this point what we're planning to do is deploy some of our crews from other areas to those areas we expect to be more hard hit. The big concern I think with this particular storm is these cold temperatures. Certainly can cause some issues in terms of restoration, making it safe for our crews to get out and effectively restore power."

You're urged to plan ahead and use caution on the roads.

Make sure generators and space heaters are well ventilated, and never touch downed power lines.

Outages can be reported online or by calling Emera's Customer Contact Center.
