United Way Pantry Project Aims To Fight Hunger In Maine

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - According to the United Way of Eastern Maine, more than 200,000 people are food insecure in Maine.

To help reduce that number, they're kicking off another year of their pantry food project.

On Thursday, Hollywood Casino donated about 1,000 cans of food that once was a sculpture in the hotel lobby.

The goal is to collect 15,000 pounds of food.

Melissa Huston of Good Shepard Food Bank said, "This is a great project to show that there is something that every single one of us can do to take care of our neighbors in the community and help end hunger in Maine."
