Uncounted Ballots Found in Vault After Scarborough School Budget Vote

Scarborough, Maine (WMTW) Voters in Scarborough passed the town's school budget earlier this week, their third time heading to the polls on the topic.

But some ballots almost went uncounted.

That's because 420 uncounted absentee ballots were discovered in a vault sometime overnight Tuesday.

After counting them Wednesday morning, the budget still passed.

Town officials are apologizing.

"The integrity of the election process is paramount we certainly believe that we're humbled and embarrassed by these sorts of things but we're humans errors happen." Says Town Manager Thomas Hall.

This third budget proposal was $50,000 less than the last proposed budget.
