ORONO, Maine (WABI) - The Director of Athletics at the University of Maine is leaving his post.

Karlton Creech is heading to Colorado where he'll serve as Vice Chancellor For Athletics, Recreation, and Ritchie Center Operations at the University of Denver.

Creech will start May 1st.

He has been UMaine AD since 2014.

UMaine President Susan Hunter says an interim AD will be named and a national search will be launched to fill the position.

In a statement released Monday, Creech said, "My years in Orono have been some of the most rewarding of my career and I look forward to following the continued success of the Black Bears."

“Karlton is a perfect fit for our diverse, ambitious and innovative community—with his focus on students and celebrating achievement,” said University of Denver Chancellor, Rebecca Chopp. “Known as a bridge builder on and off campus, Karlton will help us all achieve our dreams and aspirations.”
