SWANVILLE, Maine (WABI) A Swanville farmer accused of animal cruelty is now being sued by the town for violating a local building ordinance.

Village Soup reports town officials say Jerry Ireland built a bunkhouse without proper permits.

Town officials say he ignored notices and advice from Code Enforcement about the structure, which officials say someone was living in without proper water or waste systems.

In March, Ireland was charged with animal cruelty.

He was accused of executing and burying a dozen malnourished pigs the day before Animal Welfare agents were scheduled to inspect his property.

Ireland has said the allegations are false.
