Specialty License Plate would Support Barbara Bush Children's Hospital

AUGUSTA, Maine (WMTW) Maine could soon have a new specialty license plate.

The legislature's Transportation Committee unanimously agreed on a plate that benefits the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital.

The state requires non-profits to collect 2,000 signatures before allowing a specialty plate.

This new plate is projected to raise more than $200,000 a year for Maine's only children's hospital.

We've been there three times and and if Barbara Bush Children's Hospital was not there we'd probably have to travel down to Boston," said Joseph Westrich, plate supporter. "So the added stress of travel and time away from work is tremendous on families."

If approved by the full legislature, the new license plate would be available for Mainers to purchase by October 1, 2018.
