PORTLAND, Maine (WMTW) A lobster emoji is coming to a smartphone near you.

The Unicode Consortium announced Wednesday the lobster emoji was one of more than 150 picked to be added in the next round of emojis.

The group Unicode Consortium oversees emojis that are then shared on various platforms, including iPhones and other devices. Developers can decide how each emoji looks on their platforms.

"Great news for Maine - we're getting a lobster emoji!!!" King tweeted. "Thanks to @unicode for recognizing the impact of this critical crustacean, in Maine and across the country."

He signed the tweet with cow (Angus) and crown (King) emojis.

A petition circulated online this summer to get the lobster emoji added.

The lobster emoji will be joined by other new additions like a mosquito, a superhero woman and a pirate flag.

The Unicode Consortium said the lobster image in its documents was a mock-up and may not be the final lobster emoji.
