DIXFIELD, Maine (WMTW) - A 38-year-old man employee of the Dixfield Sawmill died Saturday morning while working on the log yard crane.

A spokesperson for J.D. Irving Ltd., which owns the sawmill, said the accident happened just before 9 a.m. outside the sawmill. The employee's name was not released because his family had not been notified, she said.

"We are devastated by this tragic loss of our friend and co-worker," said Jerome Pelletier, vice president of sawmills for Irving Products in Maine. "Our thought and prayers go out to his family."

The employee had worked at the sawmill since 2013, Pelletier said.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has been notified of the death, the company said.

The sawmill is located on Hall Hill Road.
