PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WABI) - The Presque Isle and Houlton district court Judge, Bernard O'Mara has officially submitted his notice to retire.

Governor Paul Lepage's press Secretary says he has requested to be considered for appointment to active retired. Senator Michael Carpenter hopes a replacement can be in place as soon as possible.

State Senator of District 2, Michael Carpenter said, "Clearly we need a resident judge in Presque Isle and Houlton. My belief is that will happen as quickly as possible. In the meantime, we have a number of judges from the Bangor area, that have been coming up and rotating through the county."

The senator also says that the training and transition period length depends on the law background of the individual who is selected.
