HAMPDEN, Maine (WABI) State police say a woman is being held on attempted murder charges after a man was stabbed in Hampden Friday night.

38-year-old Sonya Dupray is being held at Penobscot County Jail.

Police say a 53-year-old male is recovering at the hospital with injures to his throat.

They say he is in stable condition but his injuries were extensive.

It happened on Main Road North in Hampden in an apartment building.

We spoke to a single dad who lives in the building and says he heard the commotion last night was shocked to find out something like this happened so close to home.

"I heard two people screaming really loud. So I woke up and I went over to the window and I heard the door slam and then five minutes later there's cops pouring in I don't scare easy but I was just like I've never been near that," explained a neighbor.

The building is attached to a detox center but the apartments are not part of the center.

It's unknown what caused the fight or the relationship of the two people involved.

Police are continuing to investigate.
