Planned Bangor Rally Cut Short

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) A planned rally that was scheduled Saturday was cut short.

Plans had been made to close Harlow street between Franklin and Central streets for the Rally to Preserve American Traditions.

Organizers had been working with Bangor Police to make sure the event ran smoothly.

And while the rally was canceled, officers still maintained a presence.

"We were ready for a much bigger event," said Sgt. Wade Betters of Bangor Police. "We were gonna be a presence in the area no matter what, but we do have some security here that you can see, and some that you can't. We were ready to handle things, and to keep things orderly, and the ultimate goal would be to maintain the safety of everyone involved."

Organizers for the rally did show up briefly, but left after a few minutes.
