BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Park Street in Downtown Bangor has been converted to a one-way street for construction but that could become permanent.
Bangor City Engineer, John Theriault says they've submitted a plan to city council to make Park Street permanently one-way.
He says one of the benefits would be adding about 20 parking spaces to the street, something he says businesses are happy about.
Theriault also says there was a 2013 study done of several intersections in the downtown area.
He says, "One of the recommendations from that study was that we consider at looking at making Park Street one way to minimize the conflicts at the intersection of Exchange and State. By making it one way we could eliminate one of the approach lanes to the intersection and make it function more as a standard four leg intersection."
There will be a public hearing on the issue on February 22nd at City Hall from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Theriault says he urges anyone with comments or concerns on the proposal to attend.
