BREWER, Maine. (WABI) - "I think every girl has a dream or a lot of people have that dream of their prom, their high school prom, and feeling beautiful and confident in a dress. I just want everybody to be able to experience that."
It was an idea that started 7 years ago.
"My daughter in high school, came up with this idea-which is not what I expected. I said, well let's think about it then maybe we'll do it and she said I already sent out press releases and girls need prom dresses."
Giggey Girl Gowns in Brewer, is an organization that takes donated prom dresses and gives them away free of charge.
'When a girl finally finds a dress that fits her and she likes it and she lights up- that is the absolute best."
Co-Founder Kim Emerson says no high school student should miss out on their prom because they can't afford the dress.
"My daughter said dresses are so expensive. I don't know how people do it. We really thought about shutting our doors last year but we got busier than ever. And I think there aren't many places where you can find a dress especially where it's affordable."
The store offers dress in all styles for all occasions and they even carry men's formal wear.
"It's a father daughter today dance dresses we have menswear limited Tuxedo we have all sided shape and styles of dresses for semi-formal formal."
She said it's all made possible with the help of the community.
'They're the ones that do all the great work.I get to be like a Fairy Godmother. I just give them out and really it's everyone who donates that's doing all the good work."
