Norridgewock man with criminal history sentenced for possession of ammunition

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) A Norridgewock man is going to prison for 5 years and ten months for having ammunition and trying to steal a police officer's rifle from him.

46-year-old Vance Cayford was sentenced in federal court in Bangor Tuesday.

He pleaded guilty in December.

Cayford was arrested two years ago when police went to his house to investigate a domestic disturbance.

Cayford reportedly threatened a woman with a gun and killed two kittens.

Court documents say when police arrived, Cayford charged at an officer and tried to take his rifle.

Police then searched Cayford's home and found more than 90 rounds of ammunition.

He's banned from having ammo or guns, because he was previously convicted of domestic violence assault and illegal possession of a firearm.
