AUGUSTA, Maine (WABI) - A license plate meant to identify EMT's was unveiled in Augusta on Tuesday.
The Emergency Medical Services license plate features a blue border and the EMS symbol.
Legislation to create it has been in the works for years.
It can only be bought by licensed Emergency Medical Technicians.
It acts not only as recognition for those in the profession, but also lets the public recognize a paramedic or EMT in an emergency.
"What it does though is when you get a call that there's something going on and you have your personal vehicle and you show up on scene, you've got the plate that helps identify you as a first responder. It'll help get you though the line," said Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap.
Plates are now on sale and can be bought online or at any Bureau of Motor Vehicles office.
