ELLSWORTH, Maine (WABI) - The Ellsworth Fire Department grew a little bigger Monday night.
A swearing in ceremony held at the station.
In total, 8 new firefighters took the oath, along with two that received promotions.
At a time when some departments are struggling to get people to join Ellsworth's Chief said it was an exciting night, but the new members still have long road ahead.
"It's going to take a little bit to get him up to speed," said Chief Richard Tupper, "It takes about a year or so maybe a little longer to get them through the training process to get out into the field and really do the stuff. We mentor them in a little bit at a time as they learn different things," he said.
The two members of the department that received promotions were elevated to Captain.
