HERMON, Maine (WABI) - Investigators are trying to figure out what sparked a large fire inside a vacant industrial building in Hermon.
Crews were called to Freedom Parkway off Route Two around four Friday morning.
When they first arrived, flames were already visible above the roof of the building.
Firefighters from other communities were also called to the scene.
"The first reporting officer reported that there was heavy fire through the roof and that we we're going to do a defensive attack on this building due to it's a vacant structure," said Mike Simmons of the Hermon Fire Department. "It was in the back end and were able to hold it to the back end. We did put interior crews in early and held it from extending into the front part of the building."
No injuries were reported.
Later this afternoon, workers stopped by to turn off water in the building and an excavator knocked down much of the structure.
The building had been for sale.
