MADISON, Maine (WABI) A Hartland man was arrested after he was found hiding in the basement of a store police say he'd been caught on camera breaking in to.

Late Sunday night, deputies were called to Wicked Lettuce on Main Street in Madison after the owner caught someone on the surveillance system.

Police say the rear door had been forcibly opened.

After viewing the video, they found that the suspect had never left.

Deputies found a hole in the basement wall that was covered by styrofoam...they say that hole led into another basement where they found two backpacks and 26-year-old Christopher Gagne.

Police say inside the backpacks were more than $2,000 worth of items believed to have taken from the store.

Gagne is charged with burglary, theft, and criminal mischief.
