BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - It's been in the making for the past three years, and now the Maine Troop Greeters can share their story in a more permanent way.
The organization unveiled its new museum inside Bangor International Airport Friday.
Through the years, the group has accumulated thousands of items from soldiers and their families who they've greeted, and it's now on display for everyone to see.
Friday, more than 200 people joined the group in celebration.
"This is to honor the 1.5 million men and women who have passed through that hallway out there in service of their country for the last 15 years," said Gil Corey of the Maine Troop Greeters.
Those greetings have resulted in the collection of memorabilia consisting of more than 5,000 coins, patches, dog tags, and more.
