Local Businesses and Community Team-Up to Help Aid Hurricane Harvey Victims

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) More than 33,000 bottles and cans were donated by the Bangor community in an effort to aid Hurricane Harvey victims.

The money collected by the Bangor Redemption Center over a one week period was then matched by fourteen local businesses.

Today a check totaling almost $8,300 was presented to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.

Gordon Stitham, of the Red Cross says, "Well it means a lot because it helps the victims and in Texas and Louisiana that need the help at this time, so every little bit helps at this point. According to the last report that we got from the CEO in Portland is that we've already received 211 million dollars in donations and so this is just going to just help these people that are really in desperate need at this point."

If you'd like to donate to help Hurricane Harvey Victims, you can do so through the Red Cross website.
