CALAIS, Maine (WABI) - The last baby delivered at Calais Regional Hospital was discharged on Tuesday, marking the closing of the obstetrics unit.
Ashlynn DeMolet was born two days earlier, weighing 7 lbs 9.5 oz.
Her parents Sarah Segien and Eric DeMolet live in Eastport.
Hospital officials say since the decision was made in May to end obstetrics care, many of the nurses have found other positions.
The emergency department staff has also been trained to handle baby deliveries, if needed.
Community members and the nurses union met Wednesday night as they push to re-open the unit.
