Lagrange man charged with stealing police cruiser released from hospital

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - The Lagrange man accused of stealing a Dexter Police Department cruiser and later leading officers on a chase is now in jail.

22-year-old Tyler Tibbetts was released from the hospital Monday and is now being held at the Penobscot County Jail in Bangor.

He was being treated for injuries sustained when the chase ended in a crash on Route 15 on Friday.

State Police have charged him with theft of a motor vehicle for taking the Dexter officer's cruiser.

Dover-Foxcroft Police have charged him with eluding police, criminal speed, and driving without a license.

Tibbetts also faces probation violations and had two outstanding warrants for his arrest related to driving when he shouldn't, and taking things that did not belong to him.
