MONTVILLE, Maine (WABI) - A Mount View High School student died in a car crash Wednesday morning in Montville.

The Waldo County Sheriff's Office says 16-year-old Riley Boulay of Liberty was on his way to school when his car went off the road and hit a tree just before 8:00 a.m.

Deputies say he was the only person in the car.

Counselors have been made available to students, families, and community members to cope with Boulay's death.

After-school activities were cancelled today.

"This is a pretty busy thoroughfare for traffic in the morning for commuter traffic," said Lt. Matthew Curtis of the Waldo County Sheriff's Department. "A lot of students from Mt. View where it is a very rural district they do commute to school so several classmates have been through this morning as well."

"Our kids are coming together as a school community," said RSU 3 Assistant Superintendent, Jean Skorapa. "We know that we have parents that are coming together and that speaks volumes for what this community does."

Mount View High School will remain open until 7:00 p.m to offer support.
