Hampden girl who battled rare pediatric cancer dies

HAMPDEN, Maine (WABI) - A 17-year-old student at Hampden Academy who battled a rare childhood cancer has died.

Sienna Probert passed away Friday. She fought her battle with cancer for nearly two years.

During that time, Sienna worked to raise awareness about the disease.

She was recently honored with a Red Cross Real Heroes award for encouraging blood donations, which were an important part of her treatment.

Sienna's classmates also worked to support her, with a benefit concert to help cover her medical expenses.

A celebration of Sienna's life will take place at a future date.

Her family is asking people to honor Sienna with donations to organizations that made a difference in her life, like the Hampden Academy Music Association, Make-a-Wish and EMMC's Champion the Cure.
