That's according to a statement released on Twitter By spokesman Jim McGrath Sunday.
The former First Lady and Bush family of course have a significant legacy here in Maine.
They've spent many summers in the Kennebunkport community and across the state through the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center and beyond.
Our media partners at WMTW spoke to store employees in downtown Kennebunkport who say they have sweet memories of her, buying candy for the secret service, and walking her dogs on the beach and that they are sad to hear the news about her health.
"She's a bubbly gal with white hair flashy eyes who loves her family and her husband and her grandkids. She's a mom."
"Oh they're wonderful I think they're such nice people very nice people down to earth that's what I like."
The 92-year-old matriarch of the Bush family has been in and out of the hospital several times over the last year. She's been battling Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and congestive heart failure.
She is being cared for at her home in Houston, Texas. Barbara Bush has chosen to stop going to the hospital and spend time with her family.
The statement release Sunday read, " After consulting her family and doctors, Mrs. Bush, now age 92, has decided not to seek additional medical treatment and will instead focus on comfort care. It will not surprise those who know her that Barbara Bush has been a rock in the face of her health, worrying not for herself- thanks to her abiding faith-but for others. She is surrounded by a family she adores, and appreciates the many kind messages and especially the prayers she is receiving. "
The former First Lady has been married to former President George Herbert Walker Bush for 73 years.
