WINTERPORT, Maine. (WABI) - It was all about fruit in Winterport.
Winter Cove Farm held a seminar this morning with the goal of teaching folks how to grow healthy fruit, without the need of hazardous materials.
Those in attendance walked away with four new fruit trees to plant in their own backyards as well as the knowledge to keep the trees growing for years.
Organizers say growing organically is vital to keeping fruit and consumers healthy.
"It began with a study of the food supply that I was a little bit horrified about. And I decided that people have been doing this for thousands of years without all these chemicals. So I really started to begin to research soil biology, tree physiology, ecosystems and farming practices from around the world. And I have taken all of this information and tried to make it as simple as possible for homeowners to have success in their own backyards."
