Executive Director of the Maine Republican Party Facing Campaign Finance Violations

AUGUSTA, Maine (WMTW) - The Maine Ethics Commission is taking up a request Thursday into possible campaign finance violations involving the person behind The Maine Examiner website and the Maine Republican Party.

The Maine Democratic Party requested the investigation.

The Maine Examiner website is run by Jason Savage. He is also the executive director of the Maine Republican Party.

The ethics commission will consider whether Savage or anyone else within the party violated campaign finance disclosure requires.

It is in connection with online postings about the Lewiston mayoral run-off race in December.

Republican Shave Bouchard beat Democrat Ben Chin in the election.

Democrats claim misinformation on the website played a role in the election and that it was funded improperly.

Republicans claim Savage is the sole owner of the website and it has no official ties to the party.
