Elderly man found deceased outside his Dover-Foxcroft home

Authorities are reminding folks to keep an eye on their neighbors, especially seniors, after a man was found dead outside his home in Dover-Foxcroft Tuesday.

"A neighbor had stopped by and seen that the driveway was not plowed," said Dover-Foxcroft Police Chief, Ryan Reardon. "They plowed it out, but when they went up on the front porch of the residence, they found the male deceased in front of the door."

Police in Dover-Foxcroft are seeking information after a 77-year old man was found dead covered in snow on his porch.

A neighbor who lives down the road in the rural area found the man and called police.

They believe the man lived alone in the Steadmans Landing Road home.

Authorities are reminding folks to keep an eye on our elderly neighbors.

"It's even more so important this time of year. If you remember the story from last year where an elderly person had been found in a trailer and hadn't been checked on for over a year, those are sad. This is not that case. A few days had gone by, but again, it's a big concern. We need to be cognizant of our elderly neighbors and checking on them probably more often this time of year than we usually would.," said Reardon.

Police say the man had lived in the home for just over a year and was known to have medical issues.

Dover-Foxcroft Police Chief Ryan Reardon says this is why checking in is so important. He says he has participated in programs before that do check in on the elderly, either with a phone call or a visit. He hopes to bring something similar to the area.

"That is definitely something we should get going in this community. Relying on neighbors and people to check as we know, and as we are aware of, it could be several days before people check, and again, this case is not different than that," said Reardon.
