BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - After 18 months of renovation, staff of Eastern Maine Medical Center's Women and Infant's unit is preparing to open their new space.
The layout of the floor is familiar but there are many improvements.
It includes private patient rooms, telemetry for fetal heart monitoring so mothers can be comfortably out of bed and walking, and two OR's on the very same floor.
Nurses and providers will be training in the new space this week as well as putting the last minute touches needed to get the unit up and running.
Nurses say they're excited to get to work in their new home.
RN, Jennifer Wickett says, "It's going to make things a lot easier. We as nurses struggle for that balance between documenting and being with our patients and having hands on our patients and talking with them. So, a lot of this technology is really going to allow that to happen more often. Also, the bonding for the moms and the babies and allowing us to be a little bit further away from the computer. So, it's going to be great."
The space officially opens next Tuesday.
