BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Doctors at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor are urging folks to be careful when shoveling.
Doctor Sourbha Dani said reports indicate admissions to hospitals in the northeast increase during a snow storm.
Dani said they find more people are at risk of having a heart attack while shoveling after a snow storm.
He added preconditioning our bodies can make a difference when shoveling.
Sourbha Dani, Medical Doctor of Eastern Maine Medical Center said, "If they can keep doing the activities such as daily exercise for 5 or 10 minutes, 15 minutes, and if someone is at risk or somebody already had heartaches, I think it's a good idea to take it easy. Older folks, ask their kids to shovel for them. Not always easy, but again, taking it easy is the most important step."
Dani said it's always a good idea to take breaks when you're shoveling and know your limits.
