Fundraiser at local tattoo shop draws dozens to join the fight against Lyme disease

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Folks were getting inked Wednesday, to join the fight against Lyme disease.

Diversified Ink Tattoo Studio in Bangor had a packed waiting room.

Participants picked from several options with a donation of $50 including, The State of Maine and a Lyme disease awareness ribbon.

The owner of Diversified Ink said it's to support a 10-year-old boy from Brewer, and the organization Maine Lyme.

Owner of Diversified Ink, Eric Sheefer said, "Completely changed this kid's whole life- found out he had Lyme disease at 10. So, it was very saddening to me. I wanted to kind of reach out to the community, try to raise some money to donate to them and to the cause of Lyme disease."

Happy Dickey, President of the Maine Lyme said, "It’s getting to the point now where everyone seems to know somebody with Lyme disease. I've spoken with a few of these people, not all of them have it but, they all recognized the seriousness of it."

Black Bear Brewing teamed up with Diversified Ink during the event. For every pint sold from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., the company donated $1.
