PORTLAND, Maine (WMTW) In a Facebook video posted Tuesday morning, Congresswoman Chellie Pingree said she will not run for governor next year.

"We really need someone who can undo the damage that this governor has done to our state," she said in the video. "There are some great Democrat candidates out there and I have no doubt that one of them will make a wonderful governor, but I know I want to stay in the House of Representatives."

Nearly two dozen people have announced they are running to become Maine's next governor.

Pingree said she will run again for Congress next year.

She represents Maine's first congressional district, which includes most communities in southern Maine.
