Commissioners Vote To Issue Complaint Against Sheriff To Governor

PARIS, Maine (WMTW) Oxford County commissioners voted Tuesday afternoon to send a complaint to Gov. Paul LePage regarding Sheriff Wayne Gallant.

Gallant is under investigation by the county on for sending a sexually explicit picture to a woman.

Last week, county employee union representative Ray Cote provided WMTW News 8 with several sexual photos soliciting activity that Cote said were sent by the sheriff to employees.

Cote said there might be as many as 12 such photos of Gallant.

Cote said the union first became aware of the photos in early November when a union member came forward.

County Administrator Scott Cole said Gallant admitted at a meeting last month that he sent sexually explicit photos to a woman, but did not identify the woman.

Because Gallant is elected by voters, only LePage can remove him from office, according to the Maine Constitution.

Gallant's attorney has not responded to numerous requests for comment about the investigation.
