An Oakland camp is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

"This camp has been a part of me the past 17 years; started coming when I was like 3, so kind of grew up here, started working here," says Alex Roy, a Senior Counselor at Camp Tracy. "The camp's been in my blood, most of my life."

Camp Tracy in Oakland turns 50 this year.

"We're celebrating the past 50 years of growth and change and serving so many kids in this area," says Crista Lavenson, who manages marketing and communications at Camp Tracy.

Kids enjoy activities like rock climbing, archery, and swimming.

"I think the kids first and foremost, they have a lot of enjoyment, they have a lot of fun, they just enjoy being here," says Kurt Mathies, Director of Camps and Trips. "The staff is very cheerful and happy. The kids love them. They also build a lot of camaraderie with each other, a lot of friendships."

Let's check in with some campers to see just how much fun they're having.

"For how high I like Camp Tracy is probably very high," says camper Sierra Kingsbury.

And if there was a way to perhaps describe even higher than very high...

"A lot!" says camper Elizabeth Rice. "Like, if I could sit on the ground right now and show how many thumbs I have up, I'd probably have my feet, my tongue, my nose, my ears, my hair, and my hands."

It's not just the campers who get a lot out of it.

"It's really been a big part of my personal development, as a person, as someone who's getting ready to graduate college," says Ben Blaisdell, a Coordinator at Camp Tracy. "It's really helped me become who I am now."

The 50-year anniversary celebration will take place Thursday night at 5:00 at camp, located at 302 McGrath Pond Road, Oakland.
