SKOWHEGAN, Maine (WABI) A man walking home on the Waterville Road in Skowhegan this morning was struck by a commercial box truck.

Authorities tell the Morning Sentinel the driver of the truck tried to avoid hitting the man, striking an oncoming vehicle in the process.

Both the pedestrian and the driver of the car were taken to the hospital by LifeFlight.

DEP was called to the scene due to a large diesel spill.

Authorities say the Postal Service sent investigators to the scene because a driver of one of the vehicles was a private citizen who contracts with the Postal Service and was carrying mail.
