BANGOR, Maine (WABI) A Bangor man who police say has an extensive criminal history is charged with assaulting an officer.
Bangor Police were called to an apartment building on Essex Street Saturday for the report of a domestic disturbance.
When they arrived, they say 29-yr-old Joshua Ireland refused to cooperate with officers who were trying to question him.
Police say Ireland struggled with them and tried to break free while handcuffed.
When officers tried to buckle his seat belt, they say Ireland tried to bite them, managed to move his cuffed hands to the front of his body, unbuckled his seat belt, and smashed out the rear passenger window of the cruiser.
Police moved him out of the cruiser and say Ireland continued to struggle, hitting an officer in the face.
Charges against Ireland include domestic violence assault, criminal mischief, and refusing to submit to arrest.
