BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Authorities are searching the Kenduskeag Stream area for the body of a man who ran from the Bangor Police early Friday morning.
Police say they were called to an establishment on Harlow Street for a reported disturbance around 1 am.
When they arrived and tried to question him, they say 22 year old Peter Manuel ran from them and was located behind the federal building on the ice.
Efforts were made to rescue him but he slipped under the ice and has not been found.
"We kept prompting him to take the rope so we could help him climb up over the bank, but he did not want to do that. At some point he chose to reenter the stream. He sat down on a large chunk of ice that was in the stream. The fire department put a few rescue swimmers below there and were trying to coach him into what to do so we could rescue him," says Sgt. Wade Betters of the Bangor Police Department.
Search efforts continue Friday night.
