Alfond Youth Center Announces Plan to Renovate & Expand Facility

The Alfond Youth Center in Waterville announced plans Thursday to begin a massive renovation and expansion of their facility.
'Destination Wellness' has been more than two years in the making.
The Whole Family Wellness Project will include a youth fitness center as well as the addition of an indoor turf field, gathering spaces, and more than 100 parking spots.
A more than $6-million donation from the Harold Alfond Foundation will help kick-off construction but additional fundraising will be needed to complete the project.
Ken Walsh, the center's CEO, says the additional space will allow them to double their afterschool program capacity from 250 to 500 kids daily.
"We already have a world class gymnastics program, so they're going to have a totally new facility, (and) an indoor track for seniors, for adults, for kids to participate," said Walsh.
The center will also be expanding its teaching kitchen, and will be providing more programs for adults and seniors.
They hope to break ground on the project this spring.
