Advocates Urge Mainers to Vote Yes on Question 2

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) Election day in Maine is less than a week away and there are several ballot questions.

Advocates for Yes on Question 2 gathered in Bangor Wednesday to rally voters.

Question 2 is a ballot initiative that would require the state to expand MaineCare.

Advocates say medicare expansion would help address the opioid crisis and provide health care to many who go without.

Noah Nesin, a local Family Doctor says, "It gives us an opportunity to expand our provision of this care, to add more resources, to treat more people. And we know that we only have the capacity to treat 1 in 4 to 1 in 8 people who have opioid use disorder. In Maine right now, there are between 25 and 30 thousand people. So, these resources are critical, both for the people seeking care and for those of us who provide that care."

The Governor opposes Question 2 saying it could thrust Maine back into financial crisis.

Voters head to the polls Tuesday.
