Historic Brining Shed Makes Landfall On Canadian Soil

LUBEC, Maine (WABI) - The historic Brining Shed in Lubec collapsed into the water and floated away last week.

We spoke with Rachel Ruebor, President of Lubec Landmarks, and she says the landmark has now landed on a Canadian Island.

Ruebor says folks tried to gather as many artifacts as they could to save the historic shed.

She says as devastating as it already was, she was concerned about what she happened next.

Ruebor said, "I was very upset. It was my treasurer who went over there and said they are over there with chainsaws and sledge hammers apparently, she tried to stop them. You can go here now and see that there are pieces that have been sawn through and gone and many of the bricks from the chimney have been taken."

Ruebor says they have plans to have two contractors remove the shed from the island and then restore it.
